Kiosks, Retail Pavilions (MAF) in Ukraine

about the project

MAFs – a great solution to start a business

It’s no surprise that the appearance of a retail pavilion, kiosk, or stall – collectively known as MAFs (Small Architectural Forms) – can catch a passerby’s attention, spark interest in a product, and even motivate a purchase. These structures are a great solution for aspiring entrepreneurs who don’t yet have the means to rent or purchase a full-sized space. Therefore, buying or renting a kiosk/pavilion is a cost-effective option.

Where MAFs and pavilions are used

Modern MAFs are common on the streets of any city. They even add charm and variety to the urban landscape. With good business acumen, they can be used as fast-food points, stylish coffee stands, souvenir or handmade craft shops, or even tire service stations.

Pavilion, stall, or kiosk

It’s worth noting the difference between a retail pavilion, kiosk, and stall. Kiosks and stalls are small architectural structures (from 5–20 m²) that do not allow the customer to enter. Service is done through a window. This setup is ideal for an express coffee point, fast food, or a delightful handmade toy store. To succeed in business, one must research the market and choose the right location. With minimal investment (MAFs can also be rented), you can launch a thriving venture.

Retail pavilions are significantly larger (from 5–60 m²) and differ from kiosks and stalls mainly by having an entrance. Customers can walk inside, interact with the seller, try on products, or access services. A pavilion is perfect for a mini shop, hair salon, makeup studio, flower or small book store. Here, creativity and design are key.

Transit stop complexes

Another great business idea is a Transit Stop Complex – a retail point located near public transportation stops. People waiting for transport may be interested in the products or services offered. The structure is similar to a kiosk or stall – the key factor is location.

Types of MAFs

While a customer might value the appearance of the retail point, comfort and convenience are crucial for the vendor working inside. So when buying or renting a kiosk or pavilion, pay attention to the quality of construction and insulation. The frame of an MAF is made of metal tubing. The outer layer is usually metal tile or profiled sheeting. The interior can be finished with plastic panels, drywall, or OSB, and insulation is typically done with foam or mineral wool.

Additionally, the kiosk can be equipped with:

  • lighting
  • electrical wiring (switches, outlets)
  • heater
  • air conditioner

Thanks to their simple structure, kiosks and pavilions can be manufactured quickly. You can buy or rent a kiosk or pavilion in any design and start developing your business with minimal cost.
